CME in New Jersey
First pass, 2026-08-10, researched across five lanes.
Full coverage note — what was researched, and what the gaps are
READ THE VOLUME POINT FIRST, because the registry number for this state is deeply misleading: New Jersey shows 10,462 accredited activities, MORE THAN ANY OTHER STATE SEEDED SO FAR, and roughly 80 per cent of that is not New Jersey CME at all. EIGHTEEN OF THE FORTY-SIX ACCREDITED PROVIDERS ARE NATIONAL ONLINE MEDICAL-EDUCATION COMPANIES headquartered in the pharma corridor — Postgraduate Institute for Medicine at 2,996 activities, Medscape at 1,887, HMP Education, Physicians' Education Resource, Vindico, Haymarket, Integrity CE, Wiley and others — holding 8,383 activities between them. None of it is local, none is listed here, and a reader comparing states on registry volume will draw the wrong conclusion. The genuine local layer is 28 providers and about 2,079 activities. THE SECOND FACT: TWENTY-TWO OF THE FORTY-SIX PROVIDERS ARE ACCREDITED BY THE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF NEW JERSEY, not by ACCME directly — including Hackensack Meridian, Atlantic Health, AtlantiCare and most community hospitals. This is the third consecutive state where an intrastate accreditor covers about half the providers, after the Southern States CME Collaborative in the south and the Michigan State Medical Society, so it is a national pattern rather than a regional one. It also has a practical consequence here: MSNJ-accredited community hospitals overwhelmingly publish NOTHING, gating access behind a named CME coordinator's email address. TIMING MATTERS MORE IN NEW JERSEY THAN ANYWHERE SEEDED SO FAR. Its specialty societies cluster their annual meetings in MARCH TO MAY — anesthesiology in March, internal medicine in March, dermatology in April, orthopaedics, obstetrics, oncology, plastic surgery and the osteopathic association in May — so an August pass catches almost all of them just past, with the next cycle unposted. At least ten organizations here are dates-to-be-announced rather than inactive, and four of them demonstrably ran a real CME meeting earlier in 2026. A re-run in the fourth quarter should convert several at once, helped by the fact that four societies share one association-management firm at a single Whippany address and update on the same cadence. CREDIT COVERAGE IS PARTIAL AND MUST NOT BE GENERALISED: of 39 seeded activities 22 carry a specific AMA PRA Category 1 hour figure. The rest are unknown, NEVER zero — New Jersey's specialty chapters very largely publish a date and a venue with no accreditation statement at all. Where credit IS designated it is often by someone else: the ACP chapter's meeting is designated by the Academy of Family Physicians, two of the orthopaedic and vascular societies' meetings by Atlantic Health System, and the joint pain symposium by a commercial provider. Osteopathic credit is prominent — Rowan-Virtua dual-designates AOA Category 1-A alongside AMA PRA Category 1 with equal hour counts, and the two are never merged. KNOWN GAPS, all researched rather than assumed. THE COUNTY LAYER PRODUCES ZERO CME: the state society's directory enumerates sixteen component societies, only six publish a website, and among those are two empty calendars, three sites whose announcement archives stop in 2019 and 2020, and one login-gated portal; ten list only a PO box or phone number. THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT PUBLISHES NOTHING CURRENT — the inverse of New York's, which was the richest free-CME source in any state — its one page carrying a real AMA PRA designation is footer-stamped 2018 and its summit series ended in 2019. THE AHEC NETWORK IS THE MICHIGAN OUTCOME, NOT THE NORTH CAROLINA ONE: three centres, no shared catalog, no API, and one centre whose domain resolves but never completes a connection. The hospital association does run CME but its learning platform sits behind a Cloudflare challenge no available client could clear, so it is recorded as blocked rather than empty. Penn Medicine Princeton Health is a New Jersey hospital whose only reachable CME calendar is entirely Philadelphia content, which is deliberately not imported. Finally, TWO NEW JERSEY PROVIDERS MEET IN PENNSYLVANIA — the osteopathic school's flagship three-day conference in the Poconos and the endocrinologists' ultrasound practicum in Philadelphia — and both carry their TRUE venue state. They behave differently on purpose: the Philadelphia practicum is in person only and does NOT answer a New Jersey search, while the Poconos conference is HYBRID and remains findable from New Jersey because its online portion is attendable from anywhere.
