CME in Tennessee

First pass, 2026-08-11, researched across six lanes.

Full coverage note — what was researched, and what the gaps are

TENNESSEE'S CME IS ALMOST ENTIRELY INSTITUTIONAL, AND ITS THREE METRO POLES SIT IN TWO TIME ZONES. Nashville, Memphis and Jackson are Central; Knoxville, Chattanooga, the Tri-Cities and Oak Ridge are Eastern. Every dated row here carries the zone of its own venue, and for the platform rows that is not an inference at all — the publishers' own calendar records declare it. HALF THE STATE'S REGISTRY VOLUME BELONGS TO ORGANISATIONS THAT HOLD NOTHING HERE. Of 2,945 accredited activities, about 1,493 belong to five registrants with no public dated Tennessee activity: a national physician-staffing company in Knoxville that alone holds 24% of the state and publishes only nurse-anaesthetist modules, a hospital group's graduate-medical-education arm whose catalogue is one shared twenty-state listing with no state field, a federally funded eight-state HIV training programme, a national psychiatry publisher with a Memphis mailing address, and a commercial joint-provider operating from a post-office box. Judge this state by its institutions, not by its registry count. THE SOCIETY LAYER PUBLISHES MEETINGS, NOT CREDIT. Fourteen state specialty and county society activities are recorded here and NOT ONE carries an AMA PRA Category 1 designation. Several publish something that looks like one and is not: one prints 'approximately 11 hours of CME' with no category and no accreditor, and another prints a complete accreditation statement whose figure is still the template placeholder 'X.XX'. Credit unknown here means UNPUBLISHED AND NEVER ZERO. TENNESSEE HAS NO ACCREDITOR OF ITS OWN, AND THE TWO THAT REACH IN BARELY DO. The state is absent from the ACCME's list of recognised accreditors; the Southern States CME Collaborative accredits two providers and Georgia's Medical Association exactly one — a Chattanooga system, in the metro that spans the Georgia line, which publishes nothing under its own name. The state medical association is an accredited PROVIDER and not an accreditor, despite wording on its own site that reads as though it were. SEVERAL INSTITUTIONS PUBLISH THEIR CME ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S PLATFORM. A large regional system in the north-east of the state publishes no CME calendar on its own domain at all — every one of its likely paths returns 404 — while its oncology symposium runs, dated and credit-bearing, on a university's catalogue. The same catalogue carries a Chattanooga hospital's neuroscience series and a children's hospital's tele-education programme. A crawler limited to each institution's own website would record three live providers as silent. KNOWN GAPS, RESEARCHED AND ACCEPTED: a children's hospital's session-level calendar sits behind a free-account login, so its weekly grand rounds is recorded on the organisation and not as dated rows; one regional system's CME page is behind a bot-mitigation interstitial that was not rendered and is recorded as unconfirmed rather than empty; the state's largest county societies publish social and governance calendars with no CME; and the surgical chapter's 2026 annual meeting ended days before this pass with no 2027 date posted.

  1. Credit unknown, and the reason is unusual: the accreditation page carries a complete jointly-accredited statement (Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education) whose FIGURE is an unfilled template placeholder — verbatim, 'designates this live activity for a maximum of X.XX AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™' — followed by 'Please check back for accreditation updates'. The society also publishes that 'AAPA accepts AMA category 1 credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME'.

  2. Credit unknown — the event page publishes a full agenda and keynote speakers but no credit designation. The hospital holds provider-level ACCME accreditation ('has been reviewed by the ACCME and awarded accreditation as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians'), but this activity's designation is not published. Unknown is not zero.

  3. Joint accreditation verbatim: 'Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.' ⚠️ THE DESIGNATION DEFERS TO A CHART: 'The Postgraduate Institute for Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of credits as listed in the chart below' — and the chart is not extractable without a browser, so the 2027 hour total is UNKNOWN. The prior year's marketed 'up to 26 CME credits' has deliberately NOT been carried across. ⚠️ PUBLISHER TYPO: the site's own navigation reads 'Myrtle Beach, FL' on every page while the conference page, breadcrumb and the venue address (9800 Queensway Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572) all say South Carolina. SC is correct.

  4. Same joint accreditation and same chart-deferred designation as the Myrtle Beach conference — the 2027 hour total is UNKNOWN and the prior year's marketed figure has not been carried across. Venue: 130 Shipyard Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
